Bits x Bites launches 2023 impact report
Bits x Bites News 22 Apr 2023

China is already the world’s largest emitter of carbon emissions, accounting for 27 percent of global carbon emissions. With the drastically changing climate environments, there is no time for us to sit and wait but embrace sustainable, scalable disruptors that can help the world decarbonize.

Starting in 2022, we saw China finally take a major turn toward upstream investments, which contributed 95% of total capital invested. We believe the dominance in upstream investment speaks to more and more agrifood founders responding to the top-down priorities for food security and carbon neutrality goals.

As an agrifood tech investor, we embrace the responsibility to support a new generation of impact-driven companies working to climate-proof our food system and bolster food security. We embrace our role to shape these companies and create impact at scale. Today we take our responsibility as stewards of agrifood sustainability one step further by publishing our inaugural impact report.

This first report edition includes:

  • China’s agrifood challenges that necessitate technology disruptions, and the tidal shifts that are shaping the innovation environment
  • Our new Impact KPI framework to track our fund progress toward environmental sustainability, farm productivity and food security, and nutrition access and health span
  • Our impact-led investment process and how we mitigate risks and maximize positive impact before and after we invest
  • Portfolio case studies to dissect the agrifood challenges that drive their solutions as well as some of their achievements
